Happy Man Village

It was great place for healing..It is best when it is off season too for peace and tranquility. The owner Mr Sulalitha was a very kind and welcoming gentleman. I was there with my daughter and one of the best getaway ever...The food was great The staff specially Rodhana and baby were very friendly and everything was seen to detail..Loved the stay, wish we could have stayed for longer..If you are adventurous there is enough activity to keep you occupied and Sulalitha will guide you..Hope to visit again..I told him it is a "happy woman's village"because we were both very happy and relaxed. Very Authentic lay out with cool effect..Enjoyed every minute

We didn‘t plan to go to that region, but decided to do so because of the very good comment in the „Guide du routard“. What shall we Dax? This family is just amazing! Super friendly, top service and top organisation of tours into the region, out of the touristic business. As soon as we come back to Sri Lanka, we‘ll come back!

We stayed 5 nights at Happy Man and enjoyed every second of it. The bungalows are well designed and have a luxury feel. The garden is immaculately kept and has a good sized pool that can be used at anytime of the day. The food, oh my goodness, was absolutely delicious, the varied dishes each night had us booking dinner 4 out of 5 nights, truly exceptional. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We received a knock on our door in the late evening as a turtle was on the grass next to our bungalow. :) If you come to Bentota, this place is a must stay.

The outstanding feature here is willingness to oblige. For example, when my phone was left in Galle 40km away, one of the lads insisted on going to fetch it - and only wanted the price of a return bus ticket to do so. Or, when we had to leave for the airport at 5am,, someone had already got up and made us a pot of tea. The business os a real family affair and they all have a great pride in its success. The rooms lie in a manicured garden. They are airy, simple and clean. I like the outside bathroom with a growing wall of vegetation and the sounds of the mangrove beyond. The verandah is good, overlooking the garden. Hot water on demand, a/c and fan. ...a bit limited on niceties, no tea making (but always available from the kitchen), no room servicing except by request, no towels for the very pleasant pool. ...but I'm not complaining; the place is lovely. The food is delicious and well presented. You get what you get and there was nothing I didn't like. Breakfasts were Sri Lankan (and just as good). If it is realistic, the food comes from the garden, veg, fruit, spices etc. The most recent Bradt guide gives a good picture of the place. A hidden gem would describe it. ....Very well hidden and not easy to find, even in these satnav days. We did their 'catamaran safari' on the lagoon at the back and would recommend it for a couple of hours in the early evening (especially if you like birds). They will make transfers and will tuk-tuk you to Kosgoda Beach. Galle is within reach, about an hour away.

After 5 years of coming back to this family run hideaway we still love the unique atmosphere of this place! The clean and comfortable cabanas embedded into a wonderful garden and pool are one distinctive characteristic of this place. Additionally the excellent food cooked fresh everyday by the family mother „Babie“ and the many excursions you can to from this „base“ organised by the owner „Su“ make this place perfect also for longer stays with or without children!
